Using Old and New Sensor on Same Computer System
(Message 3072)
Posted 681 days ago by JBDAV8888 Hello What are the ramifications of using an Old (beige) sensor with a New sensor? I am considering purchasing the new sensor. I am using a Windows 7 Pro 64bit OS I know the overhead is very minor so processor usage is not an issue. I also have running WCG, GPUGrid with an NVidia 9800 GTX+ in CUDA mode. besides my main question, what is the possiblity of using the GPU to run work-units ? I seem to also fall into the "completed, not validated" group, any ideas? Thanks JBDAV8888 |

Not Able to Report
(Message 1845)
Posted 1410 days ago by JBDAV8888 Update: Well it seems that the BOINC project or the default settings on the QCN work unit defaults to the priority of "below normal". This causes a connection error in the BOINC software which doesn't allow the QCN part to connect to the servers, it has a time out error. On suggesting from Marj earlier in this thread I manually set the priority of the QCN in task manager to "normal" then it will download the next work unit after it completes the one it is working on. so what does this mean? several things I believe, if the software work unit was (if possible) set to a default priority of "normal" end of story. however I think that the BOINC program itself is the one assigning the priority and I haven't found a way to set that different. this is where Carl and Marj could weigh in and possiblly put in a switch or do a reset to allow the priority at a "normal" rate instead of the "below priority". if this is not possible then maybe a contact with the Berkley people to allow this switch in the next several BOINC updates? What do you think? Jones System:OS Windows 7 RC (soon to be RTM) ASUS PQ5-EM motherboard with a Pentium D 940 3.2 Dual Core Processor, 4Gb of DDR 1066 memory, 1RAID (striped) 950Gb, 1 200Gb RAID (mirrored), 1 500gb , and 1 320gb all SATA drives, Joywarrior sensor, using a Clear WiMAX 3Mb high speed always on Connection. |

(Message 1794)
Posted 1448 days ago by JBDAV8888 Hello Carl, Marj Well I have stopped use on the older machine (running WIN 7 RC) and moved it to a newer machine Vista SP2, Pentium D 3.2Ghz, 2 Gb of memory. Plenty of drive space. I believe that will take care of the downloading work unit problem. If not then it would have to be a problem using WiMAX Broadband connection. I will report the results in a day or so. Thanks for all the help on this vexing problem. Jones |

Not Able to Report
(Message 1729)
Posted 1455 days ago by JBDAV8888 Carl I will set the WCC at 80% and see if that makes a difference. I may move the sensor to a faster machine with more memory if this doesn't do it as I do not wish to use too much of your time. (I'm pretty sure your really occupied) My machine is not doing anything but running WCC and QCN I have also found that the "Blink" anti-virus and firewall is even less intensive resource hog than the Win 7 firewall alone. (that is good) it is the only anti-virus and firewall that works with Win 7 RC and Vista. I will update Thanks again Jones |

(Message 1724)
Posted 1457 days ago by JBDAV8888 Marj Yes I had to reset each time it downloaded a new work unit. Now it will not even download a workunit it says it has reached a limit and there are no work units available. I would ask, can't your server reset the priority for all workunits to be set as normal. My WCC is running well at IDLE and it is not having a problem. Can you advise? Thanks |

Posted 1471 days ago by JBDAV8888 Marj Ok, I downloaded and installed the "EnhanceMySe7en 1.1.4" utility. It was able to reset the priority easily to normal, (and it has a bunch more stuff I will look at later) I will wait and see what happens and report most likely later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks Jones |

Posted 1484 days ago by JBDAV8888 Thanks for the reply Is there a way to set the time the work unit will wait for the server to respond? Could that be the problem? what does things look like on your end i.e. server? The WCG is working great, I have even set the BOINC to download an extra work unit and it won't do it for QCN however it has downloaded an extra work unit for the WCG Any Suggestions? I have gone to set the priority higher and the system will not let me, (Win 7 RC problem I will figure out) Thanks Jones |

I have also changed my firewall and Anti-Virus to "Blink Personal Edition" (from e-Eye Digital Security) away from LiveOneCare (which is going away the first of next year replaced by something called Morro) I am running Win 7 RC (with admin rights) everything ran great with Win7 Beta. I have tried with and without the firewall, and Anti-Virus it appears that I have a good internet connection when I test it. I am able to manually reset the project and then it will download all items needed to run and work great until it reaches 100% then it will not upload (see above error) Oh, Yes I should say that my WorldCommunityGrid BOINC project that I am running is uploading and downloading work units fine. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks Jones |

BOINC and Windows 7 Beta
(Message 765)
Posted 1615 days ago by JBDAV8888 Hello, Installed Windows 7 BETA , and of course the QCN Boinc would not seem to run, after doing some discovery I found that Win 7 has a Compatibility Tool, (right clik on program to run) after using this, explaining what the perceived problem was (would not run) and the last OS that it would run under (Win XP) a restart and away it goes. Running well now, also the QCN Live application now also runs well. I would say that the Compatibility Tool is far and away more useful than the Vista tool. Thanks Jones |

USB accelerometer
(Message 713)
Posted 1638 days ago by JBDAV8888 Hello, Up here in Portland, OR. we are having a snow storm (most snow in 40 years) I plan on mounting my USB sensor (with proper weatherproofing) outside on a old grounding post. I will be using a modified "re-bar" protector (looks like a orange mushroom, goes on top of re-bar at a construction site to keep people from impailing themselves) to attach it to the top of the post. This will give a ground conduction of a higher magnitude than inside. What are anyones thoughts on this? Good, Bad, or indifferent? Running on BOINC with WorldCommunityGrid, since the QCN does not use many clock cycles I am receiving what appears to be great results on both Look forward to processing and contributing to furthering science in my own little way.
