On 07/29/2008 at 11:42AM Local time, a magnitude 5.4 earthquake occured in the Greater Los Angeles Basin. For more information on this earthquake, please see the USGS web site . At this time we have clean records (below) from three stations (right). This was a good test of the QCN systems, showing us where we've done well, but also showing what we need to improve.
The image below shows three records from three laptops sensors that triggered within the same second. The blue records are vertical. The green records are left to right (not oriented geographically). The yellow records are front to back. The red is the significance filter (current shaking compared to shaking in the past minute).
Importantly, the records are detected rapidly at the beginning of the primary wave, or "P" wave. The secondary wave, or "S" wave, is recorded stronger on the horizontal components than the vertical components. These sensors were about 40 km from the earthquake, recording at about 7 seconds after the onset of rupture. Many more local sensors triggered during this time, and we will check these records soon.
The data seen in the figure below are available in zipped sac format here.
